Auditions
The following suggestions,
adapted from the department's Audition Policy, should be helpful to performers
at the auditions for admission to the department -- as well as auditions for
productions once you register as an IUP student.
- Have appropriate
audition piece(s) prepared as requested. Choose roles for which you
might be cast -- and in your age range.
- Be prompt and
ready to perform (warmed up). Auditions are a tense time; warming up will
help you to relax.
- Wear appropriate
clothing to the audition, i.e., clothing which allows you freedom of movement
and shows you to the best advantage.
- Try to do whatever
is asked of you, within reason. If you are unsure about anything, ask.
- Don't be afraid
to make a mistake; holding back is a greater mistake.
- Be courteous
to others; refrain from extraneous talking or actions during audition time.
- Most
importantly, be yourself. Don't put on an act. After all, what is
an audition but a bizarre kind of job interview?
