THE 3PENNY OPERA by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill

A Music Theater and Theater-by-the-Grove Co-production
Directed by Rob Gretta · Musical Direction by Sarah Mantel
Feb. 21-23 & Feb. 27-Mar. 2; 8:00 p.m. · Feb. 24; 2:00p.m. Waller Hall Mainstage

A milestone of Twentieth Century musical theater, The 3Penny Opera rolls on unstoppably into the Twenty-first with this production.  In this "opera for beggars," composer Kurt Weill and playwright Bertolt Brecht both satirize and profoundly break from the old-fashioned opera and operetta forms, combining a barbed political perspective and the sound of 1920s Berlin dance bands and cabaret.  Macheath, a notorious bandit and womanizer, runs afoul of Jonathan Peachum when he marries Peachum's daughter, Polly, in a ceremony of doubtful legality.

Initial audition:  Perform a memorized 1 min. monologue & 16 bar song from The 3Penny Opera or something else.  If not singing from the show, please provide sheet music.  An accompanist will be provided.

Callbacks:  Read scenes from the script that will be provided.

For more information, please contact the director, Rob Gretta.

Auditions for KINDERTRANSPORT directed by Rachel Nelson

Kindertransport: Between 1938 and 1939, nearly 10,000 unaccompanied children rode
trains out of Germany to freedom in Britain, America, or Paraguay.
Most of the children never saw their parents again. Based on the
real-life accounts of these children, this moving play tells the story
of one of them...
