Music Theater Interdisciplinary Fine Arts Track
As of Fall, 2007, the College of Fine Arts is offering a Bachelor of Arts in an Interdisciplinary Fine Arts (IFA)degree with a track in Music-Theater. This track is primarily based in the Department of Theater and Dance with a secondary base in the Music Department. All applicants for this degree program would have to be accepted by both departments before admission to this degree track. The audition/interview requirements for admission are as follows:

Audition/Interview Requirements:
1. Must be accepted to IUP prior to auditioning for each department.
2. Must be accepted into both the Music and Theater/Dance Departments
3. Audition dates and times for both departments will be coordinated by Toni Apryasz, email: tonia@iup.edu ; phone: 724-357-2965. Please contact Toni if you have any questions.
Theater & Dance Department audition/interview:
1. Prepare one audition monologue of no more than 90 seconds
2. Prepare short dance piece (jazz, tap or modern) of no more than 90 seconds
3. Interview with department faculty

Music Department Audition/Testing:
1. Prepare 2 music theater songs of contrasting style:
a. One of the songs must be classic Broadway – pre 1960
b. Both songs must be memorized
c. An accompanist will be provided
2. Take the Music Department Audiation Test

Once accepted into the music-theater track of the IFA degree, a student is assigned a primary advisor in the Department of Theater and Dance and a secondary advisor in the Department of Music. This will insure that each music-theater major can meet all degree requirements within a regular four-year course of study at IUP.

[1] If a student in this track selects DANC 102 for the Liberal Studies requirement in the Fine Arts, this requirement is satisfied by that choice.
[2] Students with considerable dance training in three or more dance genres would not be required to take this course.
[3] Choice of level of Jazz course would depend upon previous training level of student.
[4] Choice of level of Ballroom/Tap course would depend upon previous training level of student.
[5] Required for major unless MUHI 101 has been used for the LS Fine Arts requirement
[6] 6 Ensemble/production experiences over a minimum of 6 semesters. At least two production experiences need to be non-performance experiences.
[7] In the last year of this track, students would be required to do a major production responsibility under THTR 486 as a Senior Project in Music-Theater
[8] As advised and in addition to any course listed above as an alternative.
