SHARE Faculty and Visiting Artists
We are currently confirming all teaching staff for SHARE 2007. Once that is done, we will place their information on the site. Until then, here is just a sampling of the calibre of our teachers and professional artists.
Mary
Logan Hastings, music theater and voice, is an assistant
professor at IUP in the Department of Music. She received
her D.M.A. in vocal performance from the University of Maryland.
She has had an extensive professional career in opera which
has given her the opportunity to play leading roles in the
United States and throughout Europe. Dr. Hastings' solo concert
work includes appearances with the Berliner Philharmonische
under the baton of Christoph von Dohnányi, and performances
with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Michael Gielen, Michel Plasson,
Daniel Barenboim, and the late Jean Pierre Ponelle and Robert
Shaw, among others. In addition to her European career, Dr.
Hastings has performed and given master classes in theaters
and music conservatories in the Peoples Republic of China.
Melvin
A. Jenkins, choral director, is currently an associate
professor and educational advisor in the Department of Developmental
Studies at IUP. He is the founder and director of the IUP
Voices of Joy gospel choir and has been involved with a number
of gospel groups in the Philadelphia area. Dr. Jenkins is
a self-taught musician and song writer with over thirty years
of experience in gospel music. He is also an accomplished
musician, having mastered the saxophone, guitar, drums, bass,
and vocals. He is currently working on a CD project with the
Voices of Joy titled “There is No Turning Back”
scheduled for release later this year.
Christine
Dominque–Bagneris was born in New Orleans,
Louisiana and received a B.A. in studio art from Xavier University
of Louisiana and an M.F.A. in printmaking from http://old.www.iup.edu/images/iup_top.gif. Her work has been exhibited in both solo
and group exhibitions in galleries and museums throughout
the United States including Steve Martin Studio in New Orleans,
New School Gallery in New York City, Westmoreland County Museum
in Pennsylvania, and Period Gallery in Omaha, Nebraska. Ms.
Bagneris is the recipient of numerous awards and honors including
the Carter G. Woodson Outstanding Graduate Student Award,
the John S. Rock Exceptional Leadership and Service Award
and a graduate assistantship for the past three years at IUP.
Mary
Strong, dance, served as an adjunct dance faculty
member of http://old.www.iup.edu/images/iup_top.gif’s department
of theater and dance and is the vice president of dance for
the Pennsylvania Association of Health, Physical Education,
Recreation, and Dance. She received her master’s degree
in dance education from The Ohio State University and a bachelor’s
degree in elementary education from IUP. Ms. Strong performed
with the dance companies of OSU, IUP, and the University of
Pittsburgh during her undergraduate and graduate years and
has been a guest choreographer and performer for numerous
companies. Mary has owned and operated her own dance studio
for eleven years and has worked as the dance director of SHARE
for the past four years.
Zarah
Blair, visual artist and printmaker, attended classes
in drawing, design, and printmaking at Chatham College in
Pittsburgh. She was invited to teach an Art Endeavor Program
through a grant from the Society for Contemporary Craft on
Pittsburgh’s North Shore. To date, she has taught singular
printmaking (monotype) combined with collage to seventh graders,
college students, and senior adults of all levels and abilities.
Ms. Blair is a member of the National Collage Society and
the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society and recently completed writing
and illustrating her second book.
Thomas
McCarty, wood artist and sculptor, received his education
from the Gilman School. He has also attended the Touchstone
Center for Crafts in the areas of wood sculpture, printmaking,
and bird carving. He has exhibited at the Southern Alleghenies
Museum of Art, Mountain Top Gallery, Bedford Fall Foliage
Festival, Log House Festival, Sawmill Center for the Arts,
and the Touchstone Center. Mr. McCarty is also the recipient
of the Distinguished Honor Award at the Cambria Designer Craftsmen’s
Guild Exhibit.
Terry
Sabo, guitarist and jazz musician, is a graduate
of the State University of New York at Albany with an undergraduate
degree in music performance with a minor concentration in
music therapy. He completed his graduate studies in classical
guitar, pedagogy, and performance at Duquesne University in
1992. Mr. Sabo has been a professional guitarist in a variety
of venues and locations throughout the U.S. and Canada. He
has toured and performed with several professional productions
including The Goodbye Girl, The Chita Rivera Review, Quilters,
and Godspell. He teaches private music students all styles
and levels of guitar, music theory, and ear training.
Michael
Walsh, dancer, has been a member of Dance Alloy,
an international touring contemporary dance company based
in Pittsburgh, since 1999. He danced with Shawn Womack Dance
Projects in Cincinnati before moving to Miami in 1998. He
holds a B.A. degree in psychology from The Ohio State University,
where he was a member of the national champion cheerleading
squad. Mr. Walsh is an active choreographer and teaching artist
in the Pittsburgh dance community and has taught modern dance
at the Dance Alloy School, Rogers Performing Arts School,
CAPA Performing Arts School and Slippery Rock University.
