Opportunities in Visual Arts, Music, Dance, and Literary Arts
The Summer Honors Arts Resident Experience is a program of ArtsPath and the College of Fine Arts at http://old.www.iup.edu/images/iup_top.gif in partnership with the Manchester Craftsman’s Guild and the IUP Robert E. Cook Honors College. SHARE is designated as a 2007 Regional Summer School of Excellence by the Pennsylvania Governor’s Schools of Excellence, Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Now entering its fifteenth year, SHARE brings talented and deserving high school students to live on the IUP campus for a two-week arts immersion into musical theater, dance, singing, and the visual arts. For 2007, we will also be offering creative writing/literary arts. Students must be currently enrolled as a sophomore, junior, or senior. Taught by IUP faculty and accomplished professional artists, SHARE will provide full tuition scholarships for up to sixty talented students who will benefit through heightened self-esteem, positive creative expression, and increased awareness of the responsibilities involved in a university campus experience.
Scholarship Application and Audition
All students wishing to audition must be nominated by a school teacher, minister, or administrator who is familiar with the student’s work. Students will then be scheduled to audition for SHARE faculty. If successful, students will be awarded a full scholarship that covers all tuition, averaging $1,500 per student. Scholarships for room and board may also be available depending on funding received.
For the auditions, students will be required to share work samples with interviewing faculty members. If applying as a visual artist, students will need to bring a portfolio containing actual artwork, photographs, and similar samples. Literary artists will need to bring up to three writing samples totaling no more than twelve pages, typed and double spaced. If applying as a performing artist, a short dance, song, theater scene, or monologue will need to be prepared.
