Fall 2011

Bonnie Collura: Selected Works - Ms. Collura creates abstract biomorphic sculptures and drawings that are rooted in figuration. Systems of connected characters are drawn together from mainstream popular culture, mythology and folklore to meet, intermingle, and morph. In her realm, iconic figures such as Snow White, Persephone, and Dorothy Gale from the Wizard of Oz can all relate. Each work in Collura's fantastic universe is an evolving assemblage of transplanted bodies and trademarks. Kipp Gallery will be exhibiting both the two dimensional collage based drawings as well as a series of the fiberglass resin cast sculptures. Most recently Bonnie completed a large scale sculpture installed on the grounds of Ehrenbreitstein Fortress in Koblenz, Germany. She is currently the Professor of Sculpture at Penn State University in State College.

The Low Down:Tales from the Margin - This is a traveling exhibition showcasing the work of seven contemporary ceramists. The exhibition is curated by Kipp Gallery Director, Kyle Houser in collaboration with Gallery Coordinator, Jill Foote-Hutton from the Red Lodge Clay Center in Red Lodge, Montana.
Each artist selected for this exhibition is exemplar of contemporary ceramics, which is both honest and current, reflecting narratives that are personal and shared, abstract and implied. The concept began with a volley of ideas and artists, until a group emerged who consistently generate objects that toy with definitions and tease visual, historical and/or technical boundaries. Another key factor in the selection process was an intent to extol the achievements of artists generating their main body of work within low temperature ranges. In joining a fluid notion of narrative, the parameter of temperature and a lineup of artists with diverse audience appeal and experience we hope to illuminate the provocative activity along a specific periphery of the field. The Low Down: Tales from the Margin is a celebration of the creative exploitation possible with electric coils and eutectic compositions. Exhibiting artists: Jason Burnett, Carol Epp, Julie Goyot, Alex Kraft, Max Lehman, Mellissa Mytty, Nick Ramey. The exhibition will originate here at IUP in the Fall of 2011 and travel to Red Lodge Clay Center in the Spring of 2012. http://jasonbigeburnett.com/ - http://www.caroleepp.com/ - http://www.julieguyot.com/ - http://alexkraftart.com/ - http://maxdna.com/ - http://www.melissamytty.com/ - http://nickrameyceramics.com/

Joelle Dietrick:The Sherwin Series - Joelle Dietrick develops two-dimensional and time-based artworks that consider contemporary nomadism and 21st century power structures. With a particular interest in female expatriates, she considers how these adventurous women negotiate their wanderlust with a desire for a home while in competition for careers beyond traditional boundaries.
Kipp Gallery will be exhibiting her latest body of work that consists of prints, paintings and projected animations. The exhibition features shattered house forms in the harmonious hues of Sherwin-Williams' 2007 Color Forecast, the roofs, beams, doors, and windows flying skyward in this series evoke a housing market sent into a tailspin by widespread foreclosures, an effect even more striking when the images are sent into motion. http://joelledietrick.com/
