Student Exchange
The College of Fine Arts at http://old.www.iup.edu/images/iup_top.gif has an active, engaging, and growing International Exchange Program. We began our program in 1998 with the art and music academies in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and Zagreb, Croatia, which began as a semester-long credit transfer program. This initial agreement continues to prosper allowing students from Central Europe to experience American style liberal arts based education within the IUP College of Fine Arts. This program now affords College of Fine Arts students the unique opportunity to spend a semester studying in Croatia, Slovenia, and Poland at a low cost to students. Tuition, housing, and meals are all covered by regular fees paid to IUP for students attending the European institutions with which we are collaborating. The airfare is basically the only additional cost of the semester exchange.
Faculty and Staff Exchange
The second facet of our program is an exchange of university professors and administrators for student workshops, performances, and classes. Our art, music, theater, and dance students continue to benefit significantly by professors visiting from European countries teaching a workshop and exhibiting or performing their work. Our professors also teach within European universities and return with enriched ideas to share with their students of ever-changing cultural global climates.
Workshops Abroad
Summer workshops are the third part of our exchange program. Students who feel the fall and spring semesters are not a possible choice for travel can select a workshop offered during the summer months. These workshops are usually three weeks in length and taught by our IUP art, music, theater, and dance professors. Each group travels to various art and performance hubs around the world where the culture is experienced first hand and academic credits are received.
International Performances
The college and campus are a rich cultural environment because of international performances provided by The Lively Arts, the fourth part of the College of Fine Arts’ exchange initiative. Every year, The Lively Arts brings in a variety of soloists and ensembles from around the world. Each visit incorporates opportunities for students and faculty to interact directly with the artist in such settings as master classes, lectures, class visits, collaborative performances, and social activities. A variety of international exhibits are also presented in our University Museum and Kipp Gallery. |
