Baritone Robert Peavler, serves as Assistant Professor of Voice at Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he teaches voice, class voice, French diction, and voice pedagogy. Dr. Peavler received his undergraduate degree in Choral Music Education from Central Michigan University and both a Masters of Music and Doctor of Music in Vocal Performance from Florida State University. An active performer, Dr. Peavler performs across the country as a recitalist and soloist. He was recently featured as a guest soloist with the IUP Wind Ensemble at the 2008 College Band Directors Eastern Division Conference. Dr. Peavler has sung the title roles in Gianni Schicchi and Le nozze di Figaro as well as the baritone solos in numerous oratorios and symphonic works. A champion of American Art Song, Dr. Peavler recently premiered David Martynuik’s Songs of Angels, Madmen, and Assassins.

As a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Dr. Peavler has been a participant of the NATS Foundation Intern Program, served as a state board member for Wisconsin NATS, published in the Journal of Singing, and presented papers on recital planning and training the complete musician at the NATS National Conference in 2000.

Dr. Peavler presented “Identification and Use of Learning Styles in the Collegiate Voice Studio” at the 2007 Northeast Chapter Conference of the College Music Society and currently serves on the CMS National Committee for Music in Higher Education.

Dr. Peavler has taught at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Columbus State University, and College of Du Page. He has served as a vocal instructor and staff choir conductor at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, as well as on the staff of the New York State Summer School for the Arts Choral Studies Program as a voice teacher and opera director. Dr. Peavler was the guest conductor for the 2007 Clarion County (PA) Music Festival, and will be the guest conductor for the 2008 Armstrong County (PA) Chorus.

Dr. Peavler’s students consistently place at the top of their divisions in state and regional auditions and he is proud of their contributions as music teachers and professional singers across the country.
