Nathan Santos is originally from Wilkes-Barre,
Pennsylvania. He received his B.M. from Wilkes University
(1992) as a music performance major, with an emphasis
in bass and voice. He received his M.M. in Studio Jazz
Performance from the University of Miami, Florida (1994)
where he also studied with Dr. Lucas Drew.
Mr. Santos served on the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh in Johnstown as Adjunct Professor (1998-2001), teaching Introduction to Western Music, Jazz History, and Theory/Analysis of Music. He also served as Professor of Bass Studies at Penn State University, Main Campus (1998-99). He maintains an extensive home studio of vocalists, pianists, bassists, and various other musical interests.
He is Principal Bass of the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, has substituted as Principal Bass of the Altoona Symphony Orchestra, and has performed with the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra. Recently, he has been an active member of the Chamber Orchestra of the Alleghenies, directed by IUP faculty member, Dr. Stanley Chepaitis. In 1998, he was featured performing a double bass concerto with the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra. JSO has also featured Mr. Santos vocally as tenor soloist in Mozart's, "Requiem," (1996) and also with his vocal quintet, White Noise (2001).
Mr. Santos regularly performs with Jazz In Your Face Big Band, Acousticity, an acoustic rock trio, and White Noise, an a cappella vocal quintet. All three of these groups feature many of his original compositions and unique arrangements. He has shared the stage with such respected performers as Bernadette Peters, Joe Morello, Sherryl Milnes, Lou Christie, John Blake, Jr., George Young, Mike Tomaro, and many others.
He has been a pit musician in many musical theater productions for the Mountain Playhouse (Jennerstown, PA), Allegheny Highlands Regional Theater (Cresson, PA), St. Vincent's (Latrobe, PA), University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown, Westmont Hilltop, Richland, Somerset, Northstar, and Conemaugh Township School Districts.
Between 1999-00, he was appointed the Director of Music Ministry at Westmont Presbyterian Church to substitute for a leave of absence, and is currently the Associate Director.
Mr. Santos has appeared on several recordings including the Family Arts Theatre's 1998 recording, "It's Halloween," winner of the 1997 Parent's Choice Gold Award.
He currently resides in Johnstown, PA, with his wife, Kristen, and children, Ross and Ariana.
