Dr. Lorraine Wilson is Professor of Music and past Chairman of the Department of Music at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She taught undergraduate and graduate courses in music education and music administration. Other responsibilities have included coordination and supervision of student teachers. She served on varied university committees that include the University Senate, Liberal Studies Committee, University-wide Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and APSCUF Executive Committee. Her present service assignments include the Provost's University Academic Council and the President's University Planning Council.

Dr. Wilson received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education from Xavier University, New Orleans, a Master of Music Education Degree from Loyola University of New Orleans and a Doctor of Arts Degree in Music Education (secondary cognate, teacher education) from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Prior to her tenure at IUP, Dr. Wilson was Supervisor of Music for New Orleans Public Schools.

She has presented workshops, scholarly papers and lectures, nationally and internationally. During the past ten years at IUP, Dr. Wilson is also noted for her grantsmanship having won awards for projects that brought visiting scholars and artists of international reputation to the department of music and university-wide. Additional recognition and awards include the Diversity Teaching Award, from the IUP Center for Teaching Excellence, a Senate Fellowship Award from the Graduate School and Research and a Social Equity Award from the Office of the Chancellor, State System of Higher Education.

Dr. Wilson holds membership in organizations that include The National Association of Music Education (MENC), Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, the Pennsylvania Society of Teaching Scholars, National Association for the Study and Performance of African American Music, Phi Kappa Phi, Mu Phi Epsilon and the Center for Black Music Research. Her published essays and articles have appeared in the International Dictionary of African American Composers, the Talking Drum Journal (Editor-in-Chief), the Journal of the Society for General Music, Opera for Youth Journal and the Journal of the Association of Caribbean Studies.NAME, BIO_TEXT
