String Project

Linda Jennings is Assistant Professor of Cello at Indiana University of Pennsylvania where she also teaches Music Theory classes and Music Appreciation classes and directs the IUP Cello Choir. A native of Wisconsin, Dr. Jennings received her Bachelor of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She also holds a Master of Music from the University of Southern California and a Doctorate of Music from the University of Texas at Austin. She has studied with cellists Geraldine Jennings, Parry Karp, Eleonore Schoenfeld, Uri Vardi and Phyllis Young.

Previous to joining the Music Department at IUP, Dr. Jennings was a faculty member at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. In addition to her teaching duties, she is an active solo, chamber and orchestral performer. She has played in orchestras throughout the Texas, the Midwest and Alaska as well as served as principal cellist for the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra and the Arctic Chamber Orchestra. She currently is a member of the Chamber Orchestra of the Alleghenies and this last summer was guest principal cellist of the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra in Thailand. She has also appeared as a soloist and chamber musician in festivals in the U.S, Europe and Asia. During the summers she has served as a guest artist at the University of Alaska Summer Fine Arts Camp, the Fairbanks Summer Fine Arts Festival and other various summer programs. Currently, Dr. Jennings is a member of the Gorell Piano Trio.

In addition to her performing and teaching career, Dr. Jennings is a strong proponent for string music education. From 1997-1999, she served as the Director of the prestigious UT String Project, an internationally acclaimed teacher-training program for undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Texas at Austin as well as a pre-college string program for young musicians.
