A Message From Dr. Young. I am the saxophone professor here at IUP and appreciate your interest in our saxophone studio. We have 18 – 20 students, including music education and performance undergraduate and graduate students. Each semester I organize four or five saxophone quartets with all the students who are taking lessons. At the end of the semester we give a saxophone quartet concert and include one or two works for large ensemble. Our saxophone quartets perform regularly on and off campus. Quartet highlights include winning the Bronze Medal at the 2002 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, performing for the last three U.S. Navy Band International Saxophone Symposiums, and a performance at the Pennsylvania Governor's Mansion. Once a week we have saxophone studio where we perform solos and quartets for each other. Once a month the Woodwind Area meets, which includes selected performances from all woodwind majors. There are three concert bands, two jazz bands, and a marching band to perform with at IUP. Our band director, Jack Stamp, is very well known as a guest conductor and also a fine composer with many works for band performed across the country and in major military bands in Washington, D.C. I have taught at IUP since 1998 when I retired as Principal and Solo Saxophonist with The US Air Force Band in Washington, DC. In addition to saxophone performance, I also direct the IUP Jazz Band. Please let me know if you have further questions. My email is listed below and I would be glad to respond to you that way also. My very best wishes for your future. Audition information is listed under the Syllabus heading.
