Dr. John Kuehn teaches clarinet and instrumental music education methods at IUP. He received a Bachelor's degree in Music Education and Master of Music degree in Clarinet Performance from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He taught high school band for ten years before completing a DMA in Clarinet Performance at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Prior to coming to IUP he taught at Bluffton College in Ohio.

For nineteen years Dr. Kuehn has taught elementary band at IUP's laboratory school. He has given numerous presentations nationally and internationally featuring the use of innovative instrumental methodology, including demonstrations in England, Scotland, Nova Scotia and Australia. Dr. Kuehn has received IUP's two highest teaching awards, The Distinguished Teaching Award and The University Professorship. He is also the author of a book on the life of jazz clarinetist Buddy Defranco.
