A permanent Artist-in-Residence program was initiated in January 2006. Featured artists are invited to teach for an entire semester while continuing their professional studio work in the studios of The Center. This position is ongoing, giving students the opportunity to study with several master artists during their time at IUP. Our first Resident, Spring 2006, was turner and sculptor Betty Scarpino. For many years, Betty has been considered one of the premier artists in her field, winning numerous awards and gallery exhibitions. In
addition, several visiting artists are invited each year to IUP to
share their professional expertise and
experiences with our students
and faculty. The purpose is to enrich our program of study with new perspectives,
innovation, and applications in creative turning and furniture development.
In the past, IUP has hosted a variety of artists that include Wendell
Castle, Stephen Hogbin, David Ellsworth, Stoney Lamar, Giles Gilson,
Mark Sfirri, John Jordan, Robert Meadows, Steve Loar, Robert Strini,
and Robert Sonday.
